Before the last registration of a trademark expires, the owner of a registered trademark is supposed to receive a notice from the office of the Trademark Registrar, informing him about the impending expiry and the conditions related to the payment of fees. If the owner fails to obtain the renewal before the expiry, the Registrar is at liberty to remove the trademark from the trademark register.
If the deadline for trademark renewal is missed, the same can be filed within 6 months after the expiry, albeit with an additional fee for late filing.

The renewal can be filed within one year prior to the date of the expiry as per rules 57 and 58 in Trademark rules 2017

Mandatory Notice from the Office of the Registrar of Trademarks
The office of the registrar of Trademarks will send a notice 6 months before informing the proprietor about the deadline for renewal of the trademark.
If the trademark is not renewed within a stipulated time then the trademark will be removed from the register of Trademarks.
However, the trademark can be restored by filing an application along with the required fee.
